Calle Málaga is again pedestrianized

  • As of today, Friday 23rd, the circulation of vehicles is prohibited from 18 to 24 hours to allow pedestrians to take a quiet walk |

This is a temporary measure implemented by the Council for Public Roads to ensure that it is a safe street for residents and visitors to enjoy a peaceful stroll

As has been done in previous years, Málaga Street in Mijas Village is once again pedestrianized. This measure will be in place from 18 to 24 hours, as announced by the councillor for Mobility and Transport and Public Roads of the Mijas Town Hall, Nicolás Cruz (PSOE). This initiative is part of the municipal mobility plan and will come into effect this Friday, July 22nd.
“It is a very commercial and tourist-filled street in Mijas and although it is one of the main village roads and is used by many drivers in the ‘pueblo’, we understand that the benefit arising from pedestrianization is greater than the inconvenience that may be caused”, said the councillor. “Fortunately, many visitors have arrived in Mijas in recent days and now they will be able to walk and visit the shops and restaurants on the street in a comfortable and safe way”, explained Cruz. The decision is also, according to the councillor, highly applauded by business owners. “In fact they have contacted the Department of Mobility and Transport and Public Roads these days so that we accelerate the pedestrianization; since the increase in visitors has been very significant lately and the forecast is that there will be a larger influx soon”. Therefore, Cruz added, “we believe that it is one more element that will serve to attract visitors”.

A tourist attraction “We encourage tourists to check out the advantages of this pedestrianization plan and we also apologize to the residents who use this street to get around. We understand that it is an extremely beneficial measure for everyone”, concluded the councillor. Regarding the considerations as to implementing the pedestrianization of other streets, councillor Cruz said that “surely in the coming years we will be exporting this measure to other parts of the village, even to other areas of Mijas, such as La Cala for example, which is another tourist attraction of great relevance in the municipality”.
