AquaMijas reopened its doors on Thursday the 10th with less uncertainty than the previous season and more expectations. “This year, we have more experience and as regards the COVID issue we have better control, so we have regained a little more peace of mind”, said the director of the park, María del Mar Asesio, who added: “I am very positive, I think we are going to have a good season compared to 2020, but, in addition, people want to go out and have fun, and the advancement of vaccination and mobility helps”. AquaMijas will once again implement measures against COVID this summer, such as reduced capacity to guarantee the safety distance, use of masks and daily disinfection.
Municipal support
Part of the municipal corporation, headed by the mayor, was present at the reopening of the park. “This year, I am convinced, thanks to the evolution of the vaccine, that we will have a better summer and that the water park will be able to work much more, which is very beneficial, precisely because of the importance it represents as regards the creation of many jobs for people who depend on this recreational establishment in the summer to work; the aquapark has been with us for many years, also carrying the name of Mijas on their letterheads and that for us is a source of pride and that is why, from the Local Council, every year we will be here to support them”, declared mayor Josele González (PSOE). The tourist data for these first days of June allow us to be optimistic, although, the mayor pointed out, the arrival of British tourists is sorely missed. For his part, the councillor for Tourism, José Carlos Martín (Cs), asked that the traffic light in Spain stop being in amber because, they say, it is a safe country, as is Mijas. “The water park is open, as are the beach bars and all our restaurants, always complying with security measures; for this reason we want to transmit trust, so that tourists can come to enjoy our many amazing offers and visit Mijas with the peace of mind of knowing that our municipality is a safe destination”. AquaMijas, as was the case last summer, is the first water park in Andalusia to open its doors this season. “I want to thank this company that has been with us for many years for betting on Mijas, because other water parks are closing while this one has remained open despite the pandemic, so thank you very much for your effort and gratitude towards us”, said the councillor of the Partido Popular, Lourdes Burgos.
