The school year is coming to an end and the summer holidays are about to begin. This is a period when many families need solutions to balance work and family life. The Social Inclusion department is offering the Summer School as part of the 'Plan Corresponsables' (Co-responsible Plan) project, which this year is doubling its capacity from 30 to 60 places.

This school is free of charge and is aimed primarily at vulnerable families, as well as single-parent and large families, with children aged between 3 and 14. Among other requirements, families must be registered as residents in Mijas and their working hours must be incompatible with childcare during the summer holidays. “It’s one of the ways we can make it easier for them to go to work with peace of mind. Priority is always given to vulnerable families who are working”, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP), the councillor for Social Inclusion, explained on Friday during the project's presentation.

The programme will run from the 1st of July to the 31st of August at Tamixa School in Las Lagunas, from 09:00 to 14:30. It will include a morning club from 08:30, but no canteen service. It will be staffed by three socio-cultural animation monitors, a coordinator and a special education monitor.

Registration

Those interested must apply for a place through the Social Inclusion department. “They can do so until Friday 26th, through the standard registration entry procedure, where they must provide all required documentation. The children will then be selected”, stressed Alarcón, who emphasised that “it is very important for families to bear in mind that applications are made per child, not per household; that is, if they have three children, they must complete three registrations”. The councillor also highlighted that “last year we could only host 30 children, and we realised there is quite a high demand, so we have expanded it to 60”.

The Mijas Town Hall’s 'Plan Corresponsable' is funded by the Regional Government of Andalusia and the Ministry of Equality. This initiative aims to design systems that include coordinated policies on time, resources, benefits and universal, high-quality public services to meet the population’s diverse care needs.

Summer schools

On Friday 19th, the heads of the municipal departments for Social Inclusion, Mari Francis Alarcón, and Education, Juan José Torres Trella (PP), also met with the private companies that will manage this year’s summer schools in Mijas to learn about the projects they will develop over the coming months. The Mijas Town Hall collaborates with these schools by providing qualified staff to care for children with special needs.
