Tuesday will be a magical night: St John’s Eve. To mark the occasion, the Mijas Town Hall has put together a special programme of events to take place in both La Cala and Mijas Pueblo.
This was announced by the councillor for Festivities, Silvia Marín (PP), who was responsible for outlining the programme. Live music will kick off at 20:00 in both urban centres. In Mijas Pueblo, Reme Fernández’s dance groups are scheduled to perform at 20:00, followed by Víctor Rojas’s groups.
At around 22:00, the ‘júas’ (rag dolls) awards ceremony will take place, and barely half an hour later there will be a concert by the cover band Maniacos. At midnight, as tradition dictates, the ‘júas’ will be burnt.

Meanwhile, in La Cala, there will be a performance by the Generación Vintage Orchestra at 22:00. At midnight, the ‘júas’ will be set alight; as is customary, these have been made by a group of women from La Cala. The orchestra's concert will then continue.
On top of all this, local beach bars will also be running their own special events. “They’ve really gone all out, with live music and special dinners. We’d like to thank them for their involvement”, Marín explained.
Special operation
As for the clean-up operation, it will comprise 120 workers. Mechanised work will begin at 3:00 and manual work at 8:00. The scheduled machinery consists of five tractors, two rotary excavators, two screening machines, two water bowsers, dos pressure washers and two combined sweepers.
The planned tasks include waste collection, beach cleaning and conditioning, emptying and replacing bin liners, and cleaning of public toilets. The aim is to ensure that beaches, the promenade and public spaces are in pristine condition for the arrival of the first swimmers and visitors. This is supported by a security operation comprising nearly twenty Local Police officers who will ensure the event runs smoothly.
From midnight onwards, beach department staff will be carrying out surveillance and monitoring duties along the coastline.
