The Mijas Town Hall has retained the Platinum Broom, the highest accolade awarded by the Technical Association for Waste Management and the Environment (Ategrus), in recognition of its comprehensive system for street cleaning and waste collection services.

 

The councillor for Street Cleaning, Eloy Belmonte (Vox), collected the award on Wednesday 10th in Madrid during the 2026 Broom Awards ceremony, a national initiative that recognises the best projects in urban cleaning, sustainability, and environmental protection.

 

In this year’s edition, the jury awarded the Platinum Broom to the Mijas Town Hall for implementing a comprehensive monitoring and management system within its street cleaning and waste contract, designed to guarantee service efficiency, responsible resource use, and compliance with environmental targets.

 

Management system

This recognition highlights the management, monitoring and control system introduced by the Street Cleaning Department during the current term of office, a tool that monitors compliance, detects issues, corrects flaws, and optimises resources allocated to street cleaning and waste collection.

“Retaining the Platinum Broom proves that the Street Cleaning Department’s work to optimise resource management and improve service coordination is delivering results. We have introduced a tracking and control system that allows us to catch incidents, act faster, and ensure services meet the high standards the residents of Mijas deserve”, Belmonte said. 

The councillor highlighted that the award backs the department’s efforts to guarantee the highest quality standards in a municipality as large and diverse as Mijas.
