The Mijas Town Hall, through its Civil Protection department, will hold a technical conference on the 28th of May focusing on the integration of drone units into emergency services and law enforcement agencies. Particular attention will be paid to the creation of specialist operators and the administrative and operational management required for their implementation.
The conference will take place at the Las Lagunas Employment Promotion Building and is aimed at both emergency services and security forces wishing to set up a drone unit, as well as professionals and organisations requiring technical guidance on the subject.
The councillor for Civil Protection at the Mijas Town Hall, Francisco Jerez (Vox), explained that drones are no longer a tool of the future, “but a very useful resource in real emergency, search, prevention and operational coordination situations”. In this regard, he noted that “with this conference, we want to help more public services take the step of incorporating these technologies with every guarantee and in accordance with current regulations”.

The conference will address issues related to the establishment of non-EASA operators, document management, necessary training, operational procedures, and the costs associated with these units.
“Many local authorities or security forces want to start working with drones, but they are faced with complex regulations or technical uncertainties. That is precisely why we wanted to organise a practical and useful conference, focused on solving real problems and sharing experiences”, said Jerez.
The programme will feature specialist technical presentations, talks on legal and operational aspects, as well as demonstration flights, and Q&A sessions. The opening will be led by the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), and Francisco Jerez himself.
The event is organised by Civil Protection, in collaboration with the Catalan Association of Unmanned Aircraft (ASCANT) and various specialist organisations from the technology sector.
Jerez concluded by emphasising that “coordination, prevention and response capacity are key in any emergency, and tools such as drones can make all the difference when it comes to acting quickly and effectively”.
