On Monday the 11th, a minute's silence was held at the doors of the Mijas Town Hall for the death of two Civil Guards in Huelva during their fight against drug trafficking. Representatives from the various political parties in Mijas offered their condolences.

The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), stated that “it is sad news; furthermore, both Jerónimo and Germán had connections with many colleagues here in the Civil Guard who are dedicated to the fight against drug trafficking, and we send our condolences to their families”. “We are at a key point, in difficult times, and that support must be felt from all institutions; we want that support to be felt from the Mijas Town Hall”, emphasised Mario Bravo, PP spokesperson at the Mijas Town Hall.

“Laws must be toughened; they must be given a free hand to act with force so that they leave feet first or at the bottom of the sea; it cannot be that our police officers are not considered a high-risk profession", stated Juan Carlos Cuevas Dawson, Vox spokesperson.

“Total support to the families; here in Mijas, collaboration with the Civil Guard is very close, and we also join in those condolences and those very difficult moments”, said Juan Carlos Maldonado, spokesperson for PMP.

“When people destined to protect us die, people destined to safeguard everyone's security, it is an event that causes us immense pain”, said Josele González, a PSOE councillor.

Heartfelt condolences to two families broken by grief and to two officers who had extensive experience in the force.
