The State Procurement Portal has published the final award of the contract for the expansion works of the Las Lagunas Sports Centre, with a budget of 4.8 million euros. The company Servimar 2008 SLU will be responsible for carrying out the works, which will have a completion period of ten months.

The project involves the completion of the multi-purpose building (for sports and administrative use), the construction of the therapeutic swimming pool, in a separate but adjoining building, a children’s playground and the necessary access points to the infrastructure, as well as changing rooms and a central distribution plaza.

The main entrance to the buildings will be via a front main gate with direct access from Camino del Albero, which connects to the central plaza that will serve as a distribution point for users to reach the various buildings and points of interest created.

Parking and electric vehicle charging

Communications within the building itself will be via open staircases and a lift. Furthermore, in the case of the multi-purpose building, a protected staircase will be provided to ensure compliance with evacuation routes, which connect all floors and provide access to the roof level.

The basement level, which spans the entire multi-purpose building, the central plaza and part of the swimming pool building, will have vehicle access to the parking area (23 spaces plus 3 accessible spaces), as well as electric vehicle charging points. This level is completed by a large area designated for ancillary facilities.

The ground floor will house the main entrance lobbies, changing rooms and administration offices. To streamline the flow of people and avoid unnecessary crowding, a connecting door from the football pitch perimeter fence is planned, allowing direct access to the changing rooms without passing through the central plaza.

Therapeutic pool with natural light

Access to the new therapeutic pool will have a direct connection from the plaza. Accessible toilets and changing rooms will be located on the ground floor. The roof will feature beams that mimic wood, which will facilitate maintenance, and will be arranged transversely, with a large longitudinal window allowing natural light to enter the premises.

The entire outdoor development, as well as the connections to existing buildings and the public road network, will be carried out via wide pathways that comply with mandatory accessibility regulations.

With regard to safety, evacuation means and appropriate equipment have been provided to ensure control and facilitate the extinguishing of potential fires, as well as the transmission of the alarm to users. The outdoor space immediately adjacent to the building meets the conditions for the intervention of the fire services.

The Las Lagunas sports centre, which today is named after the Mijas-born Olympic snowboard medallist Regino Hernández, was built in 1991 and also comprises a football pitch, a multi-sports and services building with a gym, a heated indoor swimming pool, stands, and outdoor courts.
