For the second consecutive year, a youth band concert will take place in Mijas. This is an initiative of the Department of Culture in collaboration with the Harmony Music school, located in Las Lagunas, which already has more than 240 students aged three and above.
"From the Culture Department, we aim to bring music to young people as a means of expression and also to show them the opportunities available to those who love music", said the councillor responsible for the department, Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), at the presentation of the poster, alongside the school's academic director, Yamandú Padrón.
Several recently formed youth bands will take to the stage at the La Cala de Mijas Branch Office on Saturday 14th to offer a varied musical show combining pop, jazz, funk and blues. "At the school, our idea is to work on the concept of bands, group work and orchestration, mainly in modern styles such as rock, pop, jazz and blues. During the term, more than five bands have been formed, and they are the ones that will be presenting their songs on the 14th", explained the director.

Second edition
The first edition of this initiative took place on the same stage last year and will be repeated shortly. "It is a very interesting, comprehensive activity with great musical variety and a very impressive level because Harmony Music does it very well, as we saw in the previous edition", added Maldonado, who reiterated his department's support for local cultural initiatives. "From the Culture Department, we collaborate with them and with all the groups that help develop culture within the municipality", he said.
Promising young talent
Since Harmony Music began its journey, several youth bands have been formed and have started taking their first steps on stages outside the school. The band '20 Kilómetros' is one such example, said Padrón, who added that he is "very happy to see how young people are joining these projects and how they are using what they learn in class to develop it as a group, as a band", he said.
"Harmony Music is a school that, within the contemporary and modern, though also classical, framework, is heavily promoting the concept of music production and bands. We teach practically all instruments, for all levels and for students of all ages", explained Padrón. In short, it is an ideal place for young people who want to dedicate themselves to music in one way or another. The only requirement to be part of this great family: being convinced that life with music is much better.
