The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), has sent a letter to the Government’s subdelegate in Málaga to draw attention to the “worrying” state of the A-7 road surface as it passes through the municipality, particularly in the sections of Faro de Calaburras, La Cala and El Chaparral. In her letter, the mayoress highlights the visible deterioration of the infrastructure, worsened by recent storms, “with deep potholes causing great concern among the thousands of daily users of the road, a concern shared by the Town Hall”.
Mata requests that the matter be urgently referred to the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, warning that potholes are dislodging material from previous repairs due to rain and the constant passage of vehicles. “Many residents are expressing their concern and insecurity, both directly and through the Mijas Town Hall’s social media profiles”, the text continues.

Urgent action
The mayoress emphasises the need for “urgent action” to repair the road surface “and thus resolve a serious problem”. In this regard, Mata points out that mobility is one of the main structural deficits of the western Costa del Sol, and reminds that, in addition to the absence of a coastal train, the AP-7 toll motorway “is the most expensive in Spain per journey”.

Toll motorway
In this regard, the letter points out that not only is there no discount on the AP-7, but with the start of 2026, the toll cost has increased by more than 3%, “which prevents thousands of users from using it regularly”. For all these reasons, the mayoress concludes that “work, work-life balance and leisure are significantly affected by the lack of mobility alternatives; and now, in addition, the journey along the A-7 through much of Mijas is unsafe”.

Collaboration
The mayoress describes the road’s current state as the result of an “alarming lack of maintenance” and offers the Town Hall’s collaboration on all matters relating to road safety and mobility to improve the lives of residents.
