The Mijas Town Hall continues to develop its plan to improve municipal sports facilities. At present, bids are being evaluated for the drafting of renovation projects for the Las Lagunas football pitch and the Antonio Márquez pitch in Osunillas. This was announced by the councillor for Sports, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP), and the councillor for Infrastructure and Works, Juan José Torres Trella (PP). The head of the Sports Department explained that these refurbishments are necessary due to normal wear and tear from regular use of the facilities. She added that the tender specifications describe the work required to make the two pitches more fully operational. These facilities “need to be updated” because “they are very old and have not been maintained for a long time”, said the councillor.
For his part, the councillor for Infrastructure explained that both refurbishments are very similar, except that the tender amount for the design of the Antonio Márquez football pitch is higher than that of the adjacent pitch, as it will also include refurbishment of the access area and car parks. The councillor also pointed out that the projects will have a 90-day completion deadline.

Adjacent football pitch
For the Las Lagunas adjacent pitch, plans include both the replacement of the turf and the expansion of the surrounding facilities. The work will be carried out on the existing pitch, which has an artificial turf playing surfece over ten years old. It is equipped with goalposts for 11-a-side football, two sets of goalposts for 7-a-side football, benches and stands. In addition to renovating these facilities, the project must also propose the replacement of the perimeter gutters. In this regard, the Town Hall intends to reorganise the available space, with plans for a two-storey covered grandstand, ticket offices, changing rooms, public toilets, a storeroom and a cafeteria. The tender for this project is valued at 55.000 euros.
Antonio Márquez pitch
Regarding the Osunillas football pitch, the project includes a comprehensive refurbishment of the facility, including the car park and access road. Like Las Lagunas, the pitch has artificial turf over ten years old and is equipped with goal sets for both 11-a-side and 7-a-side football. The project also proposes the replacement and redesign of the perimeter gutters. As for the covered stands located to the north, their expansion will be considered. Complementary facilities, including the CD Mijas clubhouse, public toilets, storage, and more, must be fully accessible.
The drafting of the project is being tendered for 84,416.39 euros, bringing the total for both projects to 139,416.39 euros.
