College of Physicians gives its approval to the high-resolution healthcare centre project

  • Together with the mayoress, it analyses the facilities, which will include, among other services, primary care, specialists and diagnostics
  • La alcaldesa y ediles de Vox del equipo de gobierno junto al presidente de esta institución, Pedro Navarro, y el directivo Andrés Fontalba.

The centre will also have 24-hour emergency services, major and minor outpatient surgery, and specialities such as cardiology, gynaecology and pulmonology

On Friday 12th, the Mijas Town Hall presented the Malaga College of Physicians with the basic characteristics of the high-resolution healthcare centre it is promoting in the municipality, which seeks to improve healthcare through an integrated system of primary care, specialist consultations, diagnostic tests and treatments in a single location and within the same care process. The medical institution has assessed this initiative as coherent and appropriate for the municipality in terms of population, geographical location and healthcare needs.

Specialities such as cardiology, pulmonology, paediatrics, gynaecology, ophthalmology, dermatology, speech therapy, major outpatient surgery and minor outpatient surgery, among others, will be offered at this centre, which will also have midwives and a 24-hour emergency services every day.

The Town Hall emphasises that citizens will be able to receive comprehensive healthcare at this facility and stresses that treatments will be faster and discharge processes may also be shortened, as access to diagnosis and treatment will take place at a single centre on the same day. This alternative to hospitalisation also makes it more convenient for patients.

  • Reunión de trabajo anterior a la rueda de prensa.

In this regard, the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), who met with the President of the College of Physicians, Pedro J. Navarro, stressed that thanks to this centre, the residents of Mijas will be able to resolve many of their medical problems in a single day, in an agile manner and using the latest medical technologies, adding "that it is coordinated with the rest of the municipality's public services, such as the health centres and the CARE in Las Lagunas, as well as with Mijas’ reference hospital, the Costa del Sol Hospital".

For his part, Navarro expressed his support for the construction of the High Resolution Process Centre promoted by the Mijas Town Hall because "it will provide a necessary reinforcement of healthcare in the municipality". In this regard, he insisted that the project must be adequately staffed and equipped with sufficient medical specialities to meet the needs of the local population, which experiences a significant increase during the summer months.

He also said that “it will make it possible to resolve most conditions without patients having to travel to other centres located in different municipalities”. The meeting was also attended by the first deputy mayor of Mijas, Juan Carlos Cuevas Dawson (Vox), and Andrés Fontalba, manager of the College of Physicians.

Land

The Town Hall points out that it has given a "definitive boost" to this facility by including it in the draft budget for 2026, with an allocation of 625,000 euros to the construction study. This centre, explains the Town Hall, "comes to address a long-standing need in the municipality, whose population growth over the last two decades makes the launch of additional healthcare facilities necessary".

  • Parcela donde se plantea la construcción de este centro.

Specifically, it will be built on a plot of land located in Las Lagunas, bounded by Benajarafe, Algatocín and Antonio García Moreno streets and Comares Avenue, between the Vega de Mijas secondary school and Miramar Park. The construction area covers 12,365 square metres and is municipally owned.

Mata highlighted the importance of the government team's political decision to definitively promote this high-resolution medical centre, "after more than 20 years of inaction since the then president of the 'Junta' (Regional Government), Manuel Chaves, first announced his intention to expand the healthcare facilities in Mijas".
