The Mijas Town Hall will allocate 860,000 euros to renovate and expand La Purísima cemetery in Mijas Pueblo. The project plans have already been drafted and are available to the Town Hall. They were prepared by Cadisa following a public tender and aim to improve the services provided by the facility, respecting the existing design but updating its image. The deadline for the completion of the works, once they have been awarded, will be six months, according to municipal sources in a press release.
The project includes the creation of a new building to house two wake rooms, a cold room, office space, an oven for exhumations and other ancillary uses, such as toilets, according to the councillor responsible for cemeteries, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP).

To this end, the administration room and the current toilet will be demolished. The chapel, which has an area of 64 square metres, will be retained, and two larger wake rooms will be built, one measuring 45 square metres and the other 35 square metres.
Administrative area
The rear movement area of the space will also be expanded by means of a separate corridor, and a new 24-square-metre embalming room is planned.
In addition, the project includes a space for staff offices, where taxpayers and users can be attended to, equipped with a separate toilet with a shower and another separate room where an exhumation oven will be located.

Moreover, the construction of another structure for the extension area is planned, which will have to take into account the roof slopes in order to align with the chapel roof. Likewise, the exhumation oven area will have a hipped roof, adapting to the height of the toilet block.
