According to estimates by the Mijas Town Hall, around 7,000 people attended the pre-opening days of the Mijas Grand Park this past weekend, which increased its open area by including children's areas, cycle lanes and paths within the facility. This continues the capacity and safety tests of the site in the process being carried out by the Town Hall before its official opening.
In addition, the Spanish Parkour Championship, which took place in Mijas for the first time in the open air and with an obstacle course that was unprecedented in the country, attracted 3,000 visitors, according to sources from the organisation (to which should be added some 4,000 who went to the Grand Park to enjoy its facilities, totalling approximately 7,000 people, according to municipal sources). The food truck offering and the national competition completed the attraction for locals and visitors from other parts of Andalusia and the rest of Spain.
Children's playgrounds and areas adjacent to the lake
The main entrance was open during the weekend, and the car park, with capacity for around 200 vehicles, was full during the main morning and afternoon hours.
The Parks and Gardens Department, headed by the councillor Daniel Gómez Teruel (PP), also reported that there were no incidents. Security and the opening and closing of the gates at the established times functioned normally.
In addition to the sporting event, many residents of the municipality visited the Grand Park, with a particularly high turnout at the playgrounds and areas adjacent to the lake. It should be noted that this facility has not yet been fully opened, as tests are still being carried out in preparation for its upcoming inauguration. The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), said that "we have had a perfect weekend for walking, bringing the children to ride their bikes and skate. It has been a weekend in which families have been the epicentre and, above all, the protagonists in this Grand Park. In addition, this championship puts Mijas on the national and international sporting map".
