The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), and the councillor for Sports at Mijas Town Hall, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP), visited the municipal gym in Mijas Pueblo on Tuesday, the first to receive the new training equipment purchased by the Mijas Town Hall. Since Thursday, around 50 pieces of equipment have been installed in this centre, replacing the previous ones, which were over 20 years old, "due to the neglect of previous government teams", said the mayoress. "Users who exercise daily were somewhat hampered by this lack of updated equipment, which is essential for toning and keeping fit", she pointed out.

Regarding these neww training tools, the gym instructor, Francisco Moreno, highlighted that "they allow you to work all muscle groups in a specific way, because we have treadmills, ellipticals, cardiovascular rowing machines, biceps and triceps machines, squat machines... there is a lot of variety and they are much more modern".

  • En el gimnasio de Mijas Pueblo se han renovado medio centenar de aparatos y útiles de entrenamiento.

In addition to this equipment in Mijas Pueblo, installation also began on Tuesday at the Racetrack gym, and on Wednesday at the Las Lagunas Sports Centre, continuing in the coming days at the La Cala pavilion and the La Cala swimming pool building. "I have been a user of the Mijas gym for quite some time", said local resident Francisco Barcala, "and it's true that these machines are better, you can tell from the posture, they make it easier to exercise and you can foucs your effort more". Another user, Miguel Pérez, agreed, stating that "here in Mijas, there was a lot of equipment that was broken, other machines that were unusable, bicycles with seats that moved... Now everything is perfect".

There are also plans to install almost 800 square metres of technical flooring and tatami mats in these spaces. The mayoress pointed out that the purchase of all this equipment involved a total investment of 700,000 euros, adding that "the company awarded the contract has been responsible for removing all the old machinery, discarding what was no longer useful, while those items that could still be used have been reserved for teams that have requested them for training at our municipal facilities".

  • La instalación de esta maquinaria en los gimnasios municipales finalizará a mitad de mes.
