On Saturday 26th of July, at El Bombo beach, just opposite the La Familia beach bar, Mijas lifeguards, with help from several bathers, rescued a man and his wife who were about 30 metres from the shore and struggling to get out of the water. Once on dry land, the man showed signs of respiratory distress and was given first aid by the lifeguards. He was then treated by the emergency medical team from the Mijas beach rescue and first aid service, Socorrismo Málaga, who arrived swiftly on the scene. The team managed to stabilise him, and he was able to leave the beach unaided.
The Mijas Local Police cycling unit also assisted in the rescue. They patrol the coastal path daily by bike, allowing them to reach any point on the beach quickly, and maintain constant contact with the lifeguard service.
