The Mijas Town Hall, through its Department of Rural Areas, continues to implement the Rural Road Repair Plan, an essential initiative carried out regularly and launched each year after the rainy season to ensure the durability of the work.
According to the councillor responsible for the area, Eloy Belmonte (Vox), the plan focuses on improving dirt tracks across the municipality, restoring them to optimal condition for traffic. "This work is vital to ensure that livestock owners, farmers and local residents can safely access their properties throughout year round. These roads also form a key network for the fire brigade to reach sensitive areas in the event of a fire”, he explained.
The current operation involves three specialised machines provided by the Town Hall: a grader, a water tanker and a roller. This equipment enables the levelling, compacting and conditioning of dirt roads, extending their lifespan and improving resilience to daily use and adverse weather.
"Despite the heavy winter rains, the roads are in better condition than in previous years, thanks to this being the most active season for machinery work during the winter months in the recent history of the municipality", said Belmonte.
So far, more than fifty kilometres of roads have been repaired in various rural areas, such as La Batana, the lower part of Osunillas, La Alquería, Cuesta Borrego and El Hornillo. Work is currently underway in Arroyo Seco, and with further improvements planned soon in Valtocado, the upper part of La Alquería, Atalaya, Entrerríos and Puerto de Los Gatos.
"We remain committed to the ongoing maintenance of our rural roads network because we understand how important it is for so many families living or working in the countryside. We will continue promoting this kind of action to ensure that no part of the municipality is left isolated", stressed the councillor.
