After last year's success, the Andalusian Youth Institute (IAJ) and the Malaga Provincial Council are organising the second edition of the 'Jornadas Jóvenes Emprendedores de Málaga' (Young Entrepreneurs Conference in Malaga comes to Mijas) with a programme of four meetings. The activities will start on Thursday 23rd and will run until the 18th of March in Malaga, Estepona, Velez-Malaga and Mijas. A total of 1,600 Vocational Training students will take part in these events designed to promote youth entrepreneurship.
The Deputy for Employment and Training, María del Carmen Márquez, presented the conference together with the General Director of the Andalusian Youth Institute, Pedro Ramírez; the territorial delegate for Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality in Malaga, Ruth Sarabia; and municipal representatives of the towns where the meetings will be held, including the councillor for Youth of the Mijas Town Hall, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP). "I think that these conferences are very important, because they are focused on young people who are leaving high school and there are many of them who do not know what they want to be in the future, and these conferences will inform them about the possibility of starting a business, which is another way to start a professional career", said Alarcón after the presentation.
Professional future
"It is about empowering young people, to encourage them to undertake and visualise a professional path according to their skills and qualities. In the workshops, young people will find tools that will allow them to develop on a personal and professional leve", explained the deputy for Employment and Training during the presentation. On the other hand, Sarabia pointed out that the first conference, held last year, showed that in the province there is a lot of talent and, above all, a desire for entrepreneurship, "almost 40% of young people in Malaga are interested in entrepreneurship, and that is a jump of 20 points in a year. We want this interest to turn into the launch of new projects or businesses in the province, which is an economic, tourist and business engine", said the regional youth delegate. The regional head of the IAJ, Pedro Ramírez, also stressed that "this is an enriching conference for young people" and that "the Andalusian Youth Institute is committed to entrepreneurship not only through the Innoactiva subsidies, but also through entrepreneurship workshops in high schools".
1,600 young people
Young people from almost 30 municipalities in the province will participate in the conference. "All the high schools in Mijas will be invited to the Manuel España Theatre on the 18th of March, which is the last day", said the councillor for Youth, Mari Francis Alarcón, who recalled that "companies and entrepreneurs who already have a career will come and tell them how they started to take away those fears that one has when it comes to entrepreneurship and also being so young, sometimes they don't have clear ideas and need help to move forward". The programme of activities includes motivational speeches, networking spaces with entrepreneurs to share their experiences, as well as information and support for young entrepreneurs. Young people from the four host municipalities and other localities such as: Gaucín, Genalguacil, Algatocín, Casares, Benarrabá, Jubrique, Cortes de la Frontera, Ojén, Istán, Manilva, Álora, Pizarra, Cártama, Rincón de la Victoria, Totalán, Moclinejo, Iznate, Macharaviaya, Almáchar, Benamocarra, El Borge, La Viñuela and Salares will attend.
18th of March in Mijas
The conference will start next Thursday, 23 January, at the IES La Rosaleda, in the capital; and will continue on 30 January at the Felipe VI Theatre, in Estepona; on 5 February at the El Carmen Theatre, in Vélez Málaga; and on 18 March at the Manuel España Theatre, in Las Lagunas, Mijas. The event has the support of sponsoring companies such as Grupo Vértice, Digi Tech and Mejoradora and the participation of important figures from the business world such as Google Safety Engineering Center, Freepik and Harper&Neyer, and aims to provide a space for learning and collaboration between young entrepreneurs, experts and companies.
Subsides
Participants will also be informed about available subsidies, such as those offered by the Andalusian Youth Institute, Innovactiva subsidies, to develop their business projects and encourage entrepreneurship. "They are for young people up to 35 years old in cities and up to 40 years old in rural areas, we saw that there was not much demand or knowledge on the part of the population, so we started working on it to offer a conference and raise awareness", explained Álvaro García Copé, CEO of MSGrowth, who concluded by pointing out that “what we also want is to provide the entrepreneur's point of view so that young people can see themselves as such and receive guidance for their own business projects".
