To commemorate the day of the patron saint of musicians, which is celebrated on the 22nd of November, on Sunday 17th, the Las Lagunas Music Group and the Mijas Music Band offered their traditional Concert of Santa Cecilia. The event took place in the Plaza Virgen de la Peña and included, among other compositions, some pasodoble and a hymn composed to commemorate the feast day.
It was a day for musicians, for music and for all those who enjoy listening to it. For this reason, many people gathered here on Sunday to listen to this concert.
The director of the Mijas Music Band, Francisco Jesús Valcárcel, highlighted the importance of music, and the capacity it has to unite people, pointing out that "a music band is a family, all united, working together, all as one".
For his part, the spokesman for the Las Lagunas Music Group, Javier Sedeño, pointed out that "this concert is already a tradition, in which both musical groups come together to celebrate music".
The repertoire included processional marches, a Santa Cecilia hymn composed by Francisco Villar and some 'pasodoble'.
Among the audience were many neighbours, tourists, family and friends and members of the municipal corporation, chaired by the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata, who also joined in the celebration of this day, noting that "music should be part of our lives". She also thanked the municipal bands for their participation.
