Minute’s Silence and postponed plenary for the victims of the DANA

  • Momento del minuto de silencio guardado esta mañana por toda la corporación municipal.

The municipal corporation expresses its condolences for the more than 150 people who have died in the floods

On the morning of Thursday 31st, all the groups of the municipal corporation unanimously decided to cancel the plenary session for the month of October, which was to be held at 10 hours, due to the death of more than 150 people as a result of the DANA. This decision was taken minutes before that time, in an emergency meeting held by all members of the government team and the opposition.

It was the mayoress , Ana Mata (PP), who announced this decree: “We have decided with the rest of the political groups to postpone the plenary session to Monday 4th of November at half past eight in the morning. From here, we express our condolences to all those families who are going through very sad times, we want to accompany these families in their suffering for their missing persons to appear. We would also like to convey our deepest affection to all those forces who are doing an exceptional job”.

Assessments

The PP councillor Mario Bravo, who acted as spokesman for the government team, said that “although the mourning decree does not prohibit the celebration of plenary sessions, we have considered it appropriate to postpone it to the next working day. It is a matter that has been agreed with the other municipal spokespersons and we believe it is the most appropriate thing to do. Meanwhile, our mayoress has made available to the authorities of Valencia all the resources that we can share and to demonstrate that the solidarity of the Spanish people, in this case of the Mijeños, is not only in word, but also in deed. This is what we will do for the next three days until the situation improves”.

The councillor of the Socialist Municipal Group in Mijas Josele Gonzalez said that “we join the pain of each and every one of these neighbours, of these relatives who are suffering this circumstance. I am convinced that there are many Mijeños who have family in Valencia, many Valencians who live in Mijas, who are suffering first hand from this circumstance. I would also like to send an encouraging message to the sister municipalities: Álora, Cártama, Almogía, Valle de Abdalajís, Villanueva de la Concepción, which have also been tremendously affected by these floods, where we have also had a death in Alhaurín de la Torre”.

The spokesperson for the Ciudadanos Municipal Group, José Carlos Martín, also wanted to show his support for the victims and thank the security forces for the work they are doing: “We would like to send our condolences to all those relatives who, unfortunately, have lost a loved one in these circumstances, to send them our encouragement, to send them our strength and to let them know that, although we are not there, we are with them. Above all, may they have a lot of strength, a lot of courage in such a complicated situation”.
