The Mijas Agriculture Fair will have an additional attraction, a craft market run by the Mijas Craft Association, in which up to seven artisans will display items including jewellery, wood, ceramics and varnish. According to the councillor for Agriculture, Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), "from the department we wanted to involve the artisan sector in the fair because of its economic and cultural importance in Mijas". Likewise, the councillor pointed out that "a representation of the artisans will participate in this fair showing the great heritage that Mijas has, its craftwork, which is the best in the province of Malaga and I am proud to say this".
A total of 7 artisans from various fields will exhibit their pieces in the different stands that will be set up on Saturday and Sunday, from 10:30 to 21 hours, in the Cortijo Don Elías in Las Lagunas.
The member of the Mijas Craft Association, Humildad Ríos, pointed out that "each artisan will have a space to show their crafts, we will have a point of sale for our pieces, and we will show the work we do. We will also offer workshops".
In this market we will find ‘Quejojoyas’ with polymer clay accessories, copper and silver jewellery by Mª Ángeles Hernández, wooden pieces by JJ Recícleme, ceramics by Rosalía Cuevas, spirulina by Revival, varnishes by Humildad Ríos and jewellery by Raquel Montes.
Rosalía Cuevas will be one of the artisans taking part in one of the workshops, in this case "a ceramics workshop to build pots for succulents. The aim is for all participants to experience the process from beginning to end".
The artisan, JJ Martín of Reciclemadera will also give a free wood workshop for children where they will learn about the history and the different woods, in this way Martín aims "to get children to have their first experience and contact with wood, and to know the importance of recycling and reusing, especially wood, a component that comes from a living organism and that only exists on this planet".
