‘We are specific’ is the slogan that the Spanish Confederation of Alzheimer's and other Dementias has chosen to commemorate the World Alzheimer's Day and that AFA Fuengirola-Mijas Costa has joined. A slogan that aims to highlight the special features of dementia in order to guarantee quality care. "It is a very long illness, which involves a great economic cost for the families, who, in some cases, have to stop working in order to look after the patient because they are people who need a lot of care and attention from the moment the illness is diagnosed", explains the president of AFA Fuengirola-Mijas Costa, Paqui Lebrón.
For all these reasons, the association has prepared an extensive programme of activities, which began last Sunday 15th, with a charity paella at the Peña Flamenca del Sur, and which will conclude on the 27th of September with an night-time spinning marathon at two gyms in Fuengirola (Altafit and Colesio) between 19:00 and 02:00 hours.

Day of coexistence
The next activity, Harmonies of Life, took place on Wednesday 18th of September, at the Adolfo Suárez Day Centre, where the users of the Association of Relatives of Alzheimer's patients and other dementias of Benalmádena and Torremolinos joined those of AFA to participate in a music therapy workshop "so that everyone participates in a special way on this day", added Lebrón.
Award
Likewise, during the musical and didactic show directed and presented by Pedro Gordillo, entitled ‘Nostálgicas Habaneras’, the association will present the 'Antonio Lebrón Caregiver of the Year Award' on the 21st of September at the Palacio de la Paz in Fuengirola (20:00), an award that will go to a person from Mijas, whose name has not yet been revealed. "The person who is going to receive this award deserves it, just like all caregivers, but this person in particular, due to his personal circumstances, especially deserves it", explained Lebrón.
Manifesto and information tables
As a reminder, AFA Fuengirola Mijas Costa will proceed to the reading of the manifesto on Friday 20th September, in the Primary Health Care District of the Costa del Sol, a day in which information tables will be set up, among other places, in Calle La Unión, in the Estanco Alonso, in the Branch Office Square in La Cala and in the CARE of Las Lagunas. In addition, on this day the Carpa de la Memoria will be set up in the Plaza de la Constitución in Fuengirola.
