The cat association Aristochat has been protecting cats in Mijas for about 25 years. Since then they have held many open days to show the work they do and to raise funds to maintain the shelter. Last Saturday, the association opened its doors to the public once again.
At the moment, Aristochat is receiving a lot of abandoned cats due to a specific situation, as the president of the association, Chantal Lancelot, explained, "this year there are a lot of cats being abandoned and the main reason is renting". As she said, "before adopting an animal, it is very important to know if it can live in the rented house".
They are full to the brim. Currently, there are about 200 cats in Aristochat. These animals involve a lot of expenses and many needs that can only be alleviated with financial help. As the president of the association explained, they need "financial donations, food and even sand for the litter boxes so that the association can continue operating".
For its part, the Mijas Town Hall, with the new Animal Welfare Law, is going to allocate budget items to these types of groups to collaborate with them.
This was confirmed by the councillor for Animal Welfare of Mijas Town Hall, Marco Cortés, who said that they have made "a very important commitment in two contracts. One of them to control the colonies of cats as indicated by the law and the other, which is the one currently in place, for the custody and rescue of animals. The costs are 450,000 euros and 100,000 euros, which means that the Town Hall's commitment is very significant and will benefit all these associations, including Aristochat".
