Mijas continues to be a 'Young Municipality'. This distinction was presented last week by the coordinator of the Andalusian Youth Institute in Malaga, Alba Ortiz, to the councillor in charge of the department. To stay within the young municipalities, the department had to meet some requirements, such as having an information point in the youth centre, having a specific budget allocation for the group, having a technician specialised in the area and managing the youth card.
The councillor for youth, Mari Francis Alarcón, affirmed that "for the government team, young people are essential", and received the renovation of this distinction as "very good news".
In addition to these, the Mijas Youth Department offers many other services to the young people of the municipality: scholarships and grants, European information and educational exchanges, cultural activities, as well as entertainment and leisure activities, such as the main initiative for the summer, 'Territorio Juventud'. As the councillor recalled, the activities included in this programme, such as paddle surfing and kayaking, "take place on Friday and Saturday afternoons on the beach".
Mari Francis Alarcón, encouraged all young people in the municipality to suggest activities, so that the town hall can offer them.
Finally, the councillor highlighted the positive feedback regarding the Instagram contest 'Mójate con Mijas', which, as Mari Francis pointed out, "had many participants and gave away thousands of tickets for AquaMijas".
