Mijas, a recommended destination for holidays

  • Nuestro municipio ocupa el puesto número ocho de este ranking |

National and regional media include the municipality among the best places to enjoy a few relaxing days

June comes to an end and for some people the holidays start, which means it’s time to choose a place to spend a few days enjoying the sun, the relaxed atmosphere and the good vibes that usually accompany the summer. The ideal is to find a destination that brings it all together, a place far from the crowds of the big city, where you can find cultural and festive events, excellent gastronomy, monuments that tell stories, handicrafts and, why not, idyllic spots where you can take the best photo.

In fact, it is not only us, in Mijas International, who think so. In the last few days, regional and national media have dedicated space to recommend Mijas Pueblo as an ideal holiday destination.

The digital version of the newspaper ‘El Confidencial’, in its edition of the 17th of June, recommends visiting Mijas Pueblo as a destination “full of charm” and “without crowds”. For their part, ‘Andalucía Directo’ reporters travelled to the village and showed, in the programme broadcast on Wednesday 19th, why this place has become a must-visit spot. One of the main reasons, no doubt, is because the village allows us to go back in time thanks to its stone streets and white houses. But without getting too far away from civilisation. Just 15 minutes away by car, it is also possible to enjoy the 12 kilometres of beach that goes from Fuengirola to Marbella, which can also be explored using the Coastal Path from La Cala to Marbella. You can book a ‘green fee’ at one of the 12 golf courses that are distributed throughout the region. What about accommodation? In this regard, tourists will also find options to suit all preferences and budgets. From luxury hotels such as La Zambra, to beachfront accommodation such as the Gran Hotel Costa del Sol, although it is also possible to wake up with a mountain view at the THR Mijas or start the day with breakfast in the clubhouse of La Cala Resort and contemplate the resort’s three golf courses.

What to do in Mijas Pueblo?

Visiting the ‘Conjunto Histórico Artístico’ (Historic-Artistic Site) in Mijas Pueblo is always a good choice. A tour in which, apart from extremely beautiful streets, you will find religious buildings, museums and other points of interest.

Don’t forget to go to the Tourist Office to pick up the Selfie Route map. On it you will find the best spots in the village to take the perfect photo.

Wednesdays and Saturdays at 12:00 hours, the Tourist Office square hosts a flamenco dance exhibition.

Mijas Pueblo is an Area of Artisan Interest. Many of its artisans’ workshops can be visited, where you can find a wide variety of products, from esparto grass to ceramics, jewellery, textiles and saddlery.
