The association also set up a flea market with handmade and feline related products

Mijas Felina is intensifying its fundraising campaign for their different feline care programmes. Last Sunday, the association organised a flea market in the restaurant Koco Bistró, in Mijas Pueblo, where they offered tapas in aid of the association.

During the day, and in these facilities, Mijas Felina sold handicrafts and little things related to the kittens. So all the lovers of these animals were able to buy a little something, with handmade products and costume jewellery, helping the association. According to the president, Cristina Sánchez, "the initiative came from one of our members who has this establishment and who offered to organise an event for us.  We are very grateful to her. Everything really helps, the event has gone very well and we are going to make the most of everything that is raised". The president also highlighted the work of the association Mijas Felina. "We manage the colonies, take care of the animals, the stray cats and the community cats. We take care of spaying and neutering them, looking after them, and looking after the people who look after them", she summarised.

For her part, the owner of the restaurant Koco Bistró, a partner of Mijas Felina, organised a solidarity tapa day from 12 to 16h. For only €2.5 they could choose from kimuchi prawns, ham croquettes, aubergines with honey and cheese, chicken wings, casserole, salad and pipirrana and dessert. Its workers decided to collaborate in the event by working on their day off on a voluntary basis. According to Estefanía Henao, owner of the restaurant and partner of Mijas Felina, "I have loved animals since I was a child and my passion has always been to help them. I asked my husband how we could help the association and we thought of this charity event. We also have to thank all our team who have signed up as volunteers to come to work on a day like today, that we have it free, to also collaborate with them".

The attendees were delighted with the proposal, "at symbolic prices we have been able to taste exquisite and very elaborate tapas, and at the same time help the association that needs it so much", said Elba Barreto, one of the participants.

Several councillors from the government team also attended the event to show their support.  According to the councillor for Animal Welfare, Marco Cortés (PP), "from our department it could not be any other way but to support Mijas Felina in the work they do, and the great help they give to this town hall. With charity events like this we always seek to contribute to animal welfare, so we also want to be here to support them and help them in any way we can".

Next Sunday there will be a charity environmental obstacle course (gymkhana), organised on this occasion by the youth association of La Cala de Mijas, which will also serve to raise funds for Mijas Felina. The initiative will start at 10:00 a.m., at the Sendero del Alcornocal de la Roza del Aguado (Roza del Aguado cork oak grove path). Registrations must be made in advance by calling 659.102.241 or by contacting the association itself through its social media @asoc.jovenescalademijas.
