Shcherbakova explica cómo trabaja en sus obras al público.

She uses a technique based on sand from the beach to achieve different textures

In May 2023, Russian artist Elena Shcherbakova, who has lived in Mijas for 20 years, presented her collection 'Melody of Flowers' at the Mijas Pueblo Tourist Office, and now she is back with a new series, which she has entitled 'Fantasy'. "It is intuitive abstract art because it all comes from my imagination, hence the title", says Shcherbakova.

The time she invests in each new creation varies depending on inspiration: "Sometimes it can come out very quickly in 2 or 3 days, but at other times, when you don't see anything inside, it can take longer, it depends on each painting".

Scherbakova applies different techniques in her works: "It's mixed technique, sea sand, acrylics, pebbles, I make textures and then I look for characters".

In 'Fantasy' we see how circus elements are the common thread of the collection. "Drawing clowns is something I love, but I don't like the circus", says Scherbakova.

She uses a technique based on sand from the beach to achieve textures: "I have different types of sand, finer, coarser, pebbles," says the artist.

Unlike her abstract work, where she needs to use her imagination to create, in hyperrealist canvases her work methodology changes: "When you paint hyperrealism you have the drawing or the photo on your mobile phone, and you paint, you don't think anything, you paint by observing, and that's it, when it's abstract you need to imagine".

The application of colours in her paintings, she confirms, is by intuition: "I don't think, I see that a painting lacks colour and I add it, or I think it's too dark and I add colour".

Fantasía', by Elena Scherbakova can be visited at the Tourist Office in Mijas Pueblo until the 31st of March.
