From Tuesday 5th to Thursday 7th the German city of Berlin hosts its international tourism fair, where Mijas also presents its offer based on the sensory experience. The councillors for Tourism and Tourism Promotion, Juan Carlos Cuevas (Vox) and Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), respectively, lead the delegation that has travelled to the ITB in Berlin to publicise the charms of the municipality under the slogan 'Mijas, as you like it', a campaign that focuses on the evocative character that makes Mijas one of the most popular destinations.

The aim of attending the ITB is to attract German tourists, according to both councillors. "What I am interested in is attracting that first tourist to come, to see Mijas, to repeat and, above all, to become a resident in the future, to buy a home, or to consume in supermarkets, restaurants, and create maintenance work for gardeners, plumbers, electricians ...", said Cuevas.
For his part, Maldonado stressed that "the German market is the third largest source of visitors to the Costa del Sol and, therefore, it is important to be present at the ITB, also hand in hand with the Andalusian Government and the Provincial Council, which are conducting an ambitious campaign to improve the connectivity of Malaga airport with various German cities and that brings even more German visitors to the Costa del Sol.

During their stay in Berlin, the Mijas delegation is holding numerous meetings with major tour operators. In this regard, the councillor for Tourism Promotion referred to the meeting they have already held with Sidetours, "which is a tour operator that is even established in Mijas" and that "they bring 13,000 flights from Germany to Spain and Mijas, which is obviously of great benefit". According to Maldonado, this work is leading the Vik Gran Hotel Costa del Sol, in La Cala de Mijas, to have "the possibility of bringing 1,200% more German tourists" from the 1st of May to the 25th of October, "which represents 25% of its occupancy in this market".

The arrival of Mijas at the ITB in Berlin could lead to new tourism promotion campaigns together with neighbouring municipalities. In this regard, the councillor for Tourism also referred to the meeting held with TSS Group, a network that works in collaboration with more than 3,300 travel agencies in Europe, of which 2,300 are in Germany, as well as with numerous tourism service providers. According to Cuevas, the promotion of the Costa del Sol together with other municipalities has been put on the table at this meeting. "We are looking at the possibility of a joint campaign", said the councillor for Tourism, who stressed that Mijas has a lot to offer, among other things, its "12 golf courses".

For his part, Maldonado also said that they are working "on a major marketing campaign, especially digital, to make Mijas a preferred destination for all travel agencies" that belong to this network.
