  • Exhibitions, concerts and children's entertainment, this weekend in Mijas

And don't forget the sports activities of Youth Territory and the Live Mijas by Night programme at La Butibamba Park

With the start of the month of August, the leisure and cultural agenda for this weekend in Mijas is full of different events of interest for all audiences. The first will be in Mijas Pueblo, specifically at the Folk Museum, which from Friday 4th hosts an art exhibition in tribute to the English artist Alan Burden, who passed away in September last year in our municipality. The exhibition, which will remain open to the public until August 21st, includes some of his main works.

'A la fresca. Music by the sea'.

The Cultural Delegation of the Mijas Town Hall also opens on Friday the 3rd of August its cycle 'A la fresca. Music by the sea'. As every year, several performances have been programmed to liven up the summer nights on the Torreón square in La Cala. Opening the line-up will be the local 'cantaora' Ana Serrano, accompanied on guitar by Hugo Dogma. Both will offer a varied show, in which they will perform everything from boleros to coplas. The event, which is free and open to all audiences, will begin at 22:00. Also as part of this cycle, next week, at the same time, the VI International Folklore Festival of La Cala will take place, organised once again by the Sur de Andalucía group. And the line-up will be closed by the Cuadro Flamenco Heredia, but that won't be until Friday 18th of August.

Vive Mijas de Noche' (Live Mijas by Night)

To close Friday night, on this occasion also in the seaside town, specifically at La Butibamba Park, a new performance in the 'Vive Mijas de Noche' programme will take place. On this occasion, the groups of Choirs and Dances of Mijas will entertain the evening from 22:00 hours.

Saturday 5th...

Saturday 5th of August is also full of leisure activities. The La Alquería estate will host an exhibition of threshing from 12 noon onwards, with the aim of not forgetting this Andalusian tradition that is so much a part of our culture. There will be paella and drinks for those attending.

The Neighbourhood Association of La Loma de Mijas is celebrating, as this Saturday they will be holding their long awaited "verbena" with an extensive programme of activities for all the family. The celebration will start at 20:30 hours.

Finally, Saturday's entertainment agenda will end at the Miguel González Berral Auditorium with a concert by Brothers in Band. The show 'The very best of dire straits' will start at 10 pm. Tickets cost 38.50 euros and can be purchased at brothersinband.net, ticketmaster.es and elcorteingles.es.

For the little ones

'La vaca Lola y sus amigos' will also visit the Auditorio Municipal Miguel González on Sunday, from 20:45 hours, with the intention of making the youngest members of the family have a great time. Tickets for the musical cost 10 euros in advance (at giglon.com) and 13 at the box office.

And for our youths

Remember: there is still the option of beach volleyball, kayaking or paddle surfing on the Torreón beach as part of the Territorio Juventud programme, which is being held during the weekends in August and is once again being promoted by the Youth Department. The activities will take place every Friday and Saturday from five to eight in the afternoon. Those interested in participating will have to book their activity in advance through the Youth social networks.
