On Sunday 11th, the Corpus Christi celebration will be held in the three centres

  • In this traditional event children take centre stage
  • Children in communion dress during last year's celebration in Mijas village

After mass, the processions will go through the streets closest to the parishes.

The feast of Corpus Christi will be celebrated this Sunday, 11th of June, in a special way in our municipality. The different parishes will go out with the children ones dressed in communion vestments and in the company of all the neighbours and believers who want to participate in the feast of the Eucharist of the Christians.

Corpus Christi, the feast of the body and blood of Christ in the Eucharist, recalls the last supper, when Jesus gave himself in body and blood to humanity to save it from its sins. This religious festivity has great roots and tradition in Mijas, and is celebrated with the departure of a procession with the Eucharist, under a canopy, and a route around the different altars that are placed around the village.

In Mijas Pueblo, the Corpus Christi fiesta will begin with the traditional mass at 11:30 hours in the church of the Inmaculada Concepción. At the end of the mass, the procession will start its route through the Málaga, Charcones, and San Sebastián streets, Plaza de la Libertad and back to the church. During this route, stops will be made at three altars at least: at the beginning of Calle Charcones, Plaza del Nazareno and on the corner of Calle San Sebastián.

For its part, in the centre of Las Lagunas, the celebration of the Eucharist will be held after the 10:30 mass in the parish church of San Manuel González. The procession will leave along Avenida Los Lirios, Calle Fucsia, Río de las Pasadas, Clavel and Avenida de Los Lirios and return to the Plaza Cristo de la Unión, in front of the brotherhood house. The Brotherhood of Jesús Vivo will also set up an altar inside the parish church.

In the centre of La Cala, this traditional Christian feast day, once a bank holiday, will also be celebrated. After the 10:30 mass, the parish priest will lead the procession and will walk along Marbella, Ronda, Torremolinos, Álora, Istán streets, Picoteo corner towards Nerja street, Cártama and back to the parish church.

A mass will also be celebrated in Calahonda, at 12:45 hours, followed by a return to the parish church.
