Mijas enjoyed Holy Week in all its glory this year

  • Many people visited Mijas during Holy Week

The balance of Holy Week in Mijas

After the restrictions in 2022, Holy Week has once again shone in Mijas. The weather, the good organisation by the brotherhoods of Mijas and the participation of a large number of people have made it a week of true passion. Passion and brotherhood, highlighted the parish priest of Mijas Pueblo, Francisco Villasclaras, who after officiating the Easter Sunday mass, accompanied the group of children throughout the procession. “There has been a great turnout. On the other hand, we need to meet up with other people and being with others encourages us and makes us see things in a different way”, said the priest.

In addition to the smooth running of the religious events, the balance of Holy Week in Mijas could not have been more positive from a cultural, touristic, economic and work-related point of view. This was highlighted by the government team and other members of the corporation.

The mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), said “we have enjoyed a Holy Week in which everything has gone well: the brotherhoods and fraternities have done an excellent job as we have seen in each and every one of the processions, with great professionalism, good character and how well organised they have been in all their routes; this means that our traditions are more alive than ever in Mijas. In addition, the shops have seen a significant increase in the number of customers during these days”.

The councillor for Festivities, Tamara Vera (PSOE), wanted to “congratulate all the brotherhoods, because they have worked for many months to take to the streets, and to shine with their own light, so I congratulate them because the work they have carried out has been reflected in the perfect organisation in  every one of their processions”.

The first deputy mayor of Mijas and spokesperson for the Municipal Group Cs, José Carlos Martín, added that “it has been a fantastic Holy Week, charged with emotions in which there has been a great atmosphere throughout the municipality, both in Mijas Pueblo, Las Lagunas and La Cala, and it is therefore important to thank all the brotherhoods and all those who have collaborated so that our traditions and Mijas continue to shine”.

The councillor and spokesperson for the PP in Mijas, Ángel Nozal, said that “Mijas is very traditional when it comes to Holy Week and the brotherhoods are exceptional. We need the population to be more motivated and be with our people on days as important as these”, as “it is part of our culture and part of being a town and being Mijas”.

Non-attached councillor Juan Carlos Maldonado said: “I think it has proved to be a success thanks to our brotherhoods and  their organisation, but also in terms of participation, supporting a deep-rooted tradition and which also represents a great promotion”.
