This pattern is repeated in parks, squares, roundabouts and green spaces throughout the municipality. 

The Mijas Town Hall’s Parks and Gardens Department has begun preparations for the Christmas festivities with the planting of up to 10,000 Poinsettias and 15,000 cyclamen plants. Municipal and Basic Income employees have been working for a few days on these tasks, which are being carried out in children's parks and squares as well as roundabouts and green areas throughout the municipality. "We want to welcome Christmas in style, so now that we are in the middle of the renovation season of our landscaped areas, we take the opportunity to plant these flowers so typical of these dates, so that Mijas looks its best for the next long weekend, when many people visit us" explained the councillor for Parks and Gardens, Laura Moreno (PSOE). 

 

This year, as a novelty, in addition to the traditional poinsettias, it has been decided to plant cyclamen in red and white, as it is a floral species that is more resistant to winter temperatures, "and thinking especially about the weather conditions in Mijas Village, where it is often colder and windy", said Moreno, adding that "these flowers are also more durable and last until March, approximately. 

Regarding the cyclamen plants, the head of Parks and Gardens, Diego González, also indicated that "another advantage is that they have a much longer flowering period, and in the long run they are much more economical, which is why this year we have introduced a greater number of these plants". 

For centuries, traditional poinsettias have been a must in homes, streets and shops all over the world. They are also a symbol of good wishes and good luck.
