The good atmosphere and good music have been the protagonists of six days of festivities in honour of the Virgen de la Peña

Mijas closes six days of fiestas in honour of its patron saint, the Virgen de la Peña. The good atmosphere and the joy to celebrate were the protagonists of a fair that closes its edition with a record number of visitors, according to the Town Hall. The fair took place from the 6th to the 11th of September.

"The balance could not be better. After two years of standstill due to the pandemic, we knew neighbours were eager to meet again at our fair, but this edition exceeded all expectations. The daytime fair was busy every day thanks to a varied musical programme for all tastes, where the performance of Antoñito Molina stood out. The municipal stand received thousands of people with its outstanding performances and the fairground with its rides and food stalls did not stop receiving visitors. Success without a doubt," said the Mijas Councillor, Josele Gonzalez (PSOE), who stressed that "the fair has not only been a meeting place and coexistence between residents and visitors but also a boost to our local economy.

Tamara Vera (PSOE), Fiestas Councillor, expressed her gratitude for the work carried out by "all the Fiestas department staff and the personnel from the different areas that have participated in the fair's development. I would also like to highlight the efforts of all the people who took part in the activities and who made it possible to hold a fair without incident where fun and a good atmosphere were the predominant features. Now it's time to work on what's to come for autumn and winter".

Thus, the Mijas Fair returned to the summer programme of the town with novelties, among them the great performances programmed in the Youth Stand and the daytime fair. On 7th September, Antoñito Molina took to the stage at the daytime fair to get everyone dancing in the La Muralla gardens. Success with the public repeated in the evening at the Youth Stand with Rasel, an urban artist whose urban rhythms sold out.

These two concerts were just an appetiser of the musical programme to come: the Malaga-born María Peláe was in charge of inaugurating the stellar performances in the municipal stand with great public success. She was followed on Saturday by the Andalusian rock star, Medina Azahara, who managed to attract the largest audience of all the fair's programmes and on Sunday by the 'Siempre Así band (Always Like This) from Seville.

In addition to the music, the Mijas Fair had the traditional inflatable bull run, the king and queen election, the senior citizens' tribute dinner with the participation of some 300 of the town's senior citizens, and the bicycle ride through the town streets. There was also a play area for the little ones and a photo booth to take home a fair souvenir that will undoubtedly be unforgettable for all Mijeños and Mijeñas.
