The fire declared at 3.30 pm in the 'La Majadilla' area was stabilised at 9.21 pm last Tuesday 26th, as reported by 'Infoca' on its Twitter account. The Mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), has pointed out that several dozens of houses were evacuated in Vitania, Lagar Martel, La Majadilla and some areas of La Roza. Some 11 people were housed in La Cala Cultural Centre, set up by the Town Hall. González also thanked the shopkeepers in the area for offering water, refreshments and food for the evacuees in the Cultural Centre. He also stated that some houses had been affected by the flames. The Councillor declared himself hopeful of making an assessment once the fire has been extinguished. For her part, the acting Delegate of the Andalusian Government in Malaga, Carmen Casero, said from the command post at 9 pm that at that time, 160 personnel and eight aerial resources were working in the area. Besides the Infoca, Mijas Fire Brigade and the consortium are also working in the area. Mijas Local Police, Civil Protection of Mijas and Guardia Civil are also part of the operation to extinguish this fire. The Infoca extinguishing technician, Ángel Fernández, explained to Mijas Comunicación at 7.30 pm that they were working on "the liquidation of the fronts that are still active in the perimeter".
Specifically, the aerial and the amphibious' central government means and those of Infoca were refreshing at that time in "the area of the northern flank, supporting the work of the terrestrial means". In addition, "at the tail end of the fire", various land resources are on the ground, including fire engines, fire trucks and specialist groups "working on the hot spots that still remain on the perimeter", added the technician, who was optimistic about the evolution of the fire, as "the work of the aerial resources has been very effective and the flames have gone down quite a lot". However, he added that there was still fire and "we have to continue working".
Fernández explained that they were expecting "the wind to drop in intensity" according to the meteorological information they had received, "which will help the extinguishing work". The forecast is that they will continue to "maintain work teams", and there will be no "reactivation of the fire" during the time. The causes are still unknown, so we will have to "wait for what is determined by the investigation into the causes of forest fires by the environmental agents, also attached to the Infoca Plan", added Fernández.
On the other hand, the AP-7 was cut off, in both directions, due to the smoke. It was from kilometre 201, at Calahonda-Chaparral, to 214, at Osunillas-Peña Blanquilla which now is opened to traffic. During the closure, a detour was set up in both directions at Entrerríos, according to the General Traffic Department.
