The Children's Schools Department of Mijas Town Hall and the local assembly of the Mijas Red Cross have jointly promoted a solidarity campaign to help Ukrainian refugee families in our municipality. It will consist on food and hygiene products' collection for children because, as explained on Tuesday, the Councillor for this Department, Verónica Ensberg (PSOE), "there are many Ukrainian families who have come to our town as refugees and, many have young children who need specific products for early childhood such as nappies, wipes, baby food, milk, biscuits and even school supplies.

This solidarity collection will be carried out until the 16th of May in the four municipal nursery schools, that is, the "Gloria Fuertes" school in Las Lagunas, "El Limonar" and "Europa" in La Cala, and the one in Mijas Pueblo. According to Ensberg, this initiative has also been transferred to private and subsidised centres in the municipality, "such as "La Casita de la Pimienta", which has already joined this campaign".

The Councillor for Infant Schools has encouraged parents to "collaborate in this beautiful and necessary cause for these families who are having a hard time" and also thanked "the work done by the Mijas Red Cross".

As reported from the local assembly of this NGO, Mijas is one of the municipalities of the province that helps a greater number of families from Ukraine said Ander Echebarría, Local Management Technician of the Red Cross Mijas, "we have a team of volunteers to assist these people, " including social workers, translators, and others dedicated to the administration tasks ... and thanks to all this work we have come to assist more than 200 families in the last two months, an incredible number.

Finally, Echebarría pointed out that food deliveries are generally carried out on Mondays and Tuesdays, "although we take care of any other day as we understand that people who come in need of this help are extremely vulnerable and even more so, as a result of a conflict".
