Fernando Torres will be the herald for Mijas Holy Week 2022

  • The "Santo Entierro" Brotherhood is in charge of organising the first official event of Passion Week
  • The event, long-awaited, after a two-year break, due to the pandemic, will be given by resident Fernando Torres, and the "Santo Entierro" Brotherhood.

The Mijas Holy Week 2022 opening speech will take place this Saturday, 2nd April, at 8 pm in the parish church of the Inmaculada in Mijas Pueblo

Fernando Torres already has experience in announcing religious events as, in 2019, he was the Mijas Pueblo Fair town crier. Moreover, in 2021, he was the herald of the events in honour of Vírgen de la Peña, patron saint of the municipality. For this year's Holy Week, he assures us, he has almost all the text already prepared. "It has many words about our Holy Week, there will be a review of all the thrones, and we will also be accompanied by the Mijas Music Band. I think it's going to be well received, also in such an intimate place as the parish church. We invite everyone to attend as it is going to be a beautiful moment", said Torres on Tuesday.

The Councillor for Fiestas, Tamara Vera (PSOE), explained that the event also includes the presentation of the poster announcing Holy Week 2022. The event is expected to be attended by municipal authorities, and members of the different Mijas brotherhoods and religious groups, "therefore, it will be the starting point to begin to talk about and feel our Holy Week. Hopefully, in 2022, we can live it on the streets with enthusiasm and excitement".

The "Hermandad del Santo Entierro" (Brotherhood of the Holy Burial) is in charge of organising this first event of the Mijas Holy Week. According to its eldest brother, Antonio Alarcón, "apart from this Saturday event, we are also busy with the preparations for our Good Friday procession, with the men sizing in relation with the throne, distributing tunics and accessories. We are doing everything as we go along". Alarcón also took the opportunity to announce that his brotherhood requires throne bearers, "so, we invite all those interested to come to the throne hall of the Inmaculada parish, from Monday to Wednesday, from 6 pm to 8 pm".

Brotherhood Grants

On the other hand, the Fiestas Councillor recalled that, this year, Mijas Town Hall is also collaborating financially with the municipality brotherhoods to expand their cultural and material heritage. " In some way, their thrones and vestments can be improved, all so that in this Holy Week 2022, both residents and visitors can enjoy them".
