Las Lagunas lives a colourful carnival

The party was held on Sunday 27th February, at Las Lagunas fairgrounds with games and children’s entertainment

After the party celebration in Mijas Pueblo, on Sunday 20th February, Carnival revived on the 27th in Las Lagunas. Once again, for safety reasons, the traditional parade was replaced by a big entertaining party, games and, of course, the fancy dress competition for all categories. Once again, the Mijas people’s creativity and sense of humour were evident. Among the participants, we found entire families such as the couple formed by José Manuel Gutiérrez and María José Martín dressed as carnies riding a mechanical bull or their youngest son Aitor Gutiérrez turned into a supermarket cashier called Rigoberta doing the cash register. And here, even the dog was dressed, also considered family members. The animal had to play the wolf and accompany a little Red Riding Hood.

Carnival always makes us fly and, if it is from the hot air balloon that little Alejandro Muñoz was carrying, so much better. There is no prettier way to add colour to the party than with the tones of Andrea Wilkenschildt transformed into a peacock. With this desire to have a good time, it was easy to dive into the party... We also met Randy Ramírez dressed like an aquarium. We came out of the fish tank to meet more animals, a caterpillar, Irene Díaz. And more tributes to our pets and our TV show ‘El Parque de Motty’. Penélope Valiente played the role of a ‘dog’ with her kennel, just like the one on Mijas 3.40 TV. During the whole day, the fairground had games and entertainment for children. A pedal karting circuit, a human bubble football table and bouncy castles ensured that the little ones had a good time.

Much of the government team joined the party, which again, according to the Mijas Mayor, Josele González (PSOE), shone thanks to the big participation. “I would like to thank all the families who took part in the costume contest with around 100 participants. So, I encourage all to continue participating in the Carnivals that we have recovered, something so traditional and so much of our own,” said González. The Mijas First Deputy, José Carlos Martín, also attended the event. The Councillor assured that “we are enjoying ourselves, and having a good day together, something that is also needed after this pandemic period we have had”.
