The Contemporary Art Centre in Mijas reopens its doors after having been closed due to the pandemic. From Tuesday 26th you can visit this gallery that currently houses the second largest exhibition of Picasso ceramics in the world in number and an exhibition of works by Dalí that commemorates the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante Alighieri, every day of the week, from 10 in the morning to 2 in the afternoon. “This reopening is a great opportunity to get to know the CAC Mijas for those people who have not done so yet”, assured the mayor, Josele González (PSOE), who added: “we are going to implement measures to promote cultural tourism in the municipality, as Mijas has a lot to offer, not only from the point of view of museums but of Mijas itself”.

Since 2013

The CAC Mijas, located in a building made up of two 19th-century houses on Málaga Street, in Mijas Village, was inaugurated in 2013 and is managed by the Remedios Medina Foundation. According to the councillor for Culture in Mijas, Verónica Ensberg (PSOE), during her visit to the Museum with the mayor, “the reopening of the CAC is a cultural alternative that will be added to the Town Hall’s programming and we hope that, little by little, all the initiatives organised by the Remedios Medina Foundation go hand in hand with the delegation for Culture in Mijas”. The painting gallery, which has three rooms, currently houses collections with more than 700 works to exhibit by renowned artists such as Miró, José Moreno Carbonero, José Denis Belgrano and Foujita, among others.

Artworks

Regarding the works currently being exhibited, the president of the Remedios Medina Foundation, Francisco Javier Fructuoso, explained: “right now we have the two great masters of Spanish contemporary art painting known worldwide”. In room 1, on the lower floor, we can enjoy 39 works by Picasso. These are works that show the different techniques used by the artist such as ceramics, linocuts, engravings and lithography. “Then we have two rooms dedicated to Salvador Dalí, as this year is the 700th anniversary of the death of Dante, author of ‘The Divine Comedy’, and we also wanted to honour him with the magnificent work that Salvador Dalí was commissioned to paint”, concluded Fructuoso. In total there are 34 works that reflect the Song of Hell from ‘The Divine Comedy’. In room 3, visitors will find a permanent exhibition of works by Salvador Dalí.
