The Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) Mijas-Fuengirola again organised its now traditional march last weekend to make the fight against breast cancer visible. In its fourth edition, the activity enjoyed great levels of participation, a good atmosphere and solidarity in abundance. The weather was good and the residents responded one more year to the call of the AECC. On the Plaza del Torreón in La Cala several tents were set up to receive the participants, attend to the last minute registrations and serve as a meeting point for the event. According to the president of the group, Paula Casas, “this march has become an incredible event, it has great convening power. It is a family activity and people come along with great enthusiasm”. It has been a solidarity march included within all the activities of the month of October. This year the slogan is ‘Stand up, for them’ and it was intended to raise funds with a symbolic registration fee of 10 euros. Two of the participants in this event were Marisol Ruiz and Noelia Sotomayor, who emphasized that “this is a worthwhile cause and we also do something different in this way. This association does a very good job and we want to continue collaborating with it”.

Opinions

A good number of councillors from the Local Corporation in Mijas also participated, who wanted to support the cause with their presence. According to the mayor of the municipality, Josele González (PSOE), “this is an important event to participate in, as it has become something that is traditional and it is for a very good cause. It is a day to live as a family, to remember that a disease that affects thousands of women must be made visible and to highlight, above all, the work that this social group does”. The Councillor for Volunteering, Mariló Olmedo (Cs), was also present: “Here we are again this year supporting the association, which does a much-needed job. Thanks to this, patients can enjoy better quality of life and we always support them in all the events they organise”. The ‘marea rosa’ (pink tide), as it is affectionately called, first warmed-up with music, dance and Zumba to enliven the atmosphere and after that, they began the walk along the Coastal Path up to Marbella, amid laughter and solidarity on a day of coexistence with all the family.
