Last Thursday 28th, Mijas Village hosted a new route within the Mijas Secrets programme, launched by the Department for Foreigners. Participants were able to visit some of the work spaces of local artisans to learn about their work and products and thus bring the handicraft wealth of the municipality closer to foreign residents. According to the councillor for this department, Arancha López (Cs), “most of them acquire some of these products during the route, which is also what is intended with this programme, that is, for them to come to the Village and at the same time help the economy of the municipality”. López added that they also aim to “publicise the artisan wealth that we have and for visitors to participate in this”. Another objective is to continue encouraging resident foreigners to learn more about our crafts, culture, history and heritage. For this reason, during the morning, the participants, foreign residents of different nationalities: German, Dutch, Danish and Swedish, toured Mijas Village, stopping at four workshops of local craft persons. “The evaluation is very positive. They are small groups that increasingly appreciate the routes. We are seeing a great demand for this activity and, from the department, we will continue working on it”, assured councillor López. To finish the route, visitors enjoyed the views from the terrace of the La Bodega del Pintor bar. For their part, some of the participants, such as German resident Carla Crauer, stated: “this activity is impressive because I usually walk around Mijas quite a lot but I did not know about these workshops, and it is something new for me after coming here for twenty-five years”.
