One of the initiatives that was presented related to Alzheimer’s Day is the Literary Contest that the Association of Alzheimer’s Relatives of Mijas (AFAM), together with the Department for Culture of the Mijas Town Hall, launches this contest every year to commemorate the date.
What is sought with the contest is, through a short story or letter, to promote literary creation and dissemination, encourage written creativity and make the disease known. The vice president of the association, María Rosario Cabello, explained that “one of our missions is to create awareness, promotion and training related to Alzheimer’s”.
It has three categories: child, youth and adult. The texts should be about the disease and be sent by post to the Folk Museum in Mijas Village or via email alzheimermijas@mijas.es. The admission period is until October 21st.
For her part, the director of AFAM, María del Carmen López, said that “Alzheimer’s is a long-term disease, and it affects all members of the family in one way or another”.Finally, from the department, councillor Verónica Ensberg (PSOE), wanted to invite all citizens to “continue collaborating” and showed her gratitude to the Association of Alzheimer’s Relatives of Mijas “for the great work they do”.
