Mijas has more than 100 kilometres of rural roads that, each year, around this date, begin to be prepared so that, when the rains arrive, they are perfectly stabilised, allowing the transit of vehicles and access to the rural areas. Two teams composed of a leveling machine and a compacting roller have been working since the beginning of the week in two parts of the municipality: the western part, in Puerto de los Gatos, and the eastern part, between the Torreblanca and Osunillas urbanisations. The intention is to continue with the works, which will last for about 50 days, until reaching the rural roads that give access to the areas of Entrerríos, Valtocado, La Alquería and La Retama. “A multitude of areas that, for the peace of mind of the residents who live in them, are being executed with the greatest diligence with specialised machinery and drivers who, with great skill, have to tackle very winding sections of roads. In the end, the result is the most important thing and finally, they will be perfectly stabilised”, said mayor Josele González (PSOE) who, on the morning of Wednesday 25th, visited the works together with the councillor for Rural Areas, José Carlos Martín ( Cs). These tasks involve an investment of close to 70,000 euros and depending on the pace, “they will be supported with another team to be able to reach other areas”, as Martín explained. The councillor pointed out that, along with the road stabilisation tasks, “the gutters are also prepared, so that they are in optimal condition for the evacuation of rainwater”. “It is about preparing them so that when winter arrives they are in the best possible condition and allow the passage of vehicles with the greatest comfort”, he said. Finally, the mayor recalled that “we have a large population that lives in rural areas and that makes it imperative for us to improve these accesses; due to their location, the asphalting work is complicated, so we have to continue working to keep them in the current state they are in”.
