Mijas Pueblo exceeds the maximum temperature recorded in the last 11 years

  • The heat wave began to subside on Tuesday
  • It has been 11 years since the meteorological station set up by 'mijeño' Cristóbal Gambero had registered such high temperatures |

The thermometers reached 39ºC

This heat wave has left us temperatures much higher than normal throughout the peninsula. The approach of a very warm mass of air from the south and the hot 'terral' wind at a height of 1,500 meters caused the air to descend bringing with it these high temperatures.

It was at the end of this heat wave that the maximum of 39ºC was registered in Mijas Pueblo. It has been 11 years since the meteorological station set up by 'mijeño' Cristóbal Gambero had registered such high temperatures which surpassed the 38.8ºC registered last year. This is an important increase while considering that Mijas Pueblo is 425 metres above sea level, a circumstance that usually brings warmer temperatures.

Historical records
In the rest of the country, thermometers have also left historical records. The State Meteorological Agency reports that about a hundred stations exceeded 25ºC at night and about 200 stations exceeded 40ºC during the day, with an absolute record of maximum temperature in more than 20 observatories. Last Friday, up to 12 localities exceeded 45ºC, with 26 municipalities that reached this temperature on Saturday. According to Aemet, the highest average temperature is that registered by Córdoba with 47.4ºC

Forecast
This heat wave will continue until today Wednesday in some places such as the Canary Islands. For the next few days in Mijas, temperatures are expected to return to normal without reaching 30ºC.
