From August 16th to September 5th, you can send photos recycling glass to the email yoreciclovidrio@mijas.es

The Local Council of Mijas wants to obtain the green flag awarded by Ecovidrio, which recognizes the work carried out in our municipality in terms of recycling. This initiative includes a photographic contest aimed at all citizens. The Councillor for Street Cleaning, Laura Moreno (PSOE), explained this week what this initiative consists of. "As of next Monday and until September 5th, all the neighbours who wish to can take photos recycling glass in one of the green containers that we have throughout the municipality and send them to the email yoreciclovidrio@mijas.es", Moreno pointed out.

All the photos sent will be published in the coming days on the social networks of the Mijas Town Hall. The winners of this photo contest will be known during the second week of September. “Of all the photos that we receive in that email, the two that receive the most votes from the public will obtain a small green igloo with the image of a town, which is a way of saying thank you to those people who recycle inside our municipality”, informed the councillor, encouraging all citizens to participate in this initiative, “which is very simple since, today, we all have a mobile phone at hand with which to take photos”.

Mijas has up to 680 green containers to deposit glass

This competition is part of a special Ecovidrio plan for Andalusia, called 'Green Flags Movement', which includes, among other lines of action, collaboration with the hospitality sector to promote greater recycling of glass in establishments, citizen awareness or the improvement of infrastructures related to green containers. “In Mijas we have also adhered to this campaign to obtain that green flag for our municipality, which means that we are recycling well. We are already doing it with plastic and cardboard, and now we want Mijas to be green", highlighted Moreno.

Finally, the councillor recalled that in the hospitality sector, 120 restaurants, bars and beach bars in the town have already joined this programme, which will go hand in hand with the Mijas Local Council. Likewise, Moreno pointed out that "in 2020, the citizens of Mijas recycled 2,208 tons of glass containers, which represents 23.8 kilos per inhabitant". Likewise, she concluded, "in the town we have 680 green containers, one for every 125 inhabitants".
