The Virgen de los Dolores of La Cala will take part in a procession, on Tuesday 15th, for the first time, to mark her feast day. The Brotherhood of Cristo Crucificado and the Virgen de los Dolores will carry the image in an intimate procession, on Christ's float and without a canopy, following 19:30 Mass, and will take a short, one-and-a-half-hour route through the centre.
A dream come true for the La Cala brotherhood. After several years of trying to take the image of the Virgin out in procession, on the 15th of September, it will make its way through the main streets of La Cala. The procession will begin at 20:30 from the parish church and will follow Calle Marbella, Calle Ronda, Calle Torremolinos, Calle Casares, Calle Manilva, Calle Torreón and Calle Marbella, and back to the church, where it is expected to arrive at around 22:00. The Virgin will feature a large floral centerpiece on the float, with white, pink, and red roses donated by local restaurant El Pikoteo.
She will be accompanied by the Las Lagunas Musical Band, and during the procession, various parish groups from La Cala will lead the recitation of the Seven Sorrows. The float will be carried by 22 bearers, dressed in black trousers and white shirts.
The Virgin will wear her traditional black dress with a black mantle embroidered in silver, her silver crown, and the Sacred Heart with the seven daggers on her chest, along with her pearl rosary and handkerchief of tears.
As this is the first year the image of the Virgin is processing alone, and out of respect for the patron saint of La Cala, Santa Teresa, local authorities, other brotherhoods, and groups have not been officially invited; however, they are welcome to attend in a personal capacity.
Mijas Pueblo
The Archbrotherhood of Dulce Nombre de Jesús Nazareno y la Virgen de los Dolores will hold a Mass in honour of María Santísima de los Dolores on Tuesday 15th at the Chapel of San Sebastián in Mijas at 20:00. On Wednesday 16th, the hand-kissing ceremony for the Virgin will take place from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 21:00.
