Soroptimist International Costa del Sol participated in the various events organised in Mijas for 25N, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, including the reading of a manifesto by the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), and a charity tea organised by different groups to raise funds for women affected by gender-based violence. In addition, the group held its first Soroptimist Leadership Academy in November, which, during its presentation at the Mijas Town Hall, took the opportunity to discuss the Istanbul Convention, an important international treaty focused on preventing and combating violence against women. Members expressed their concern about countries withdrawing from the convention and called on the public to stand up against violence.

Members of Soroptimist International Costa del Sol, as they have for more than 15 years, also joined the march in Málaga against violence towards women. The group emphasises the importance of “being active at a local level, and over the years we have built strong links with other women’s groups, sharing activities and supporting one another. That is why it is disappointing when some voices diminish this work. True progress comes from building on the efforts of many women and men over decades, not from ignoring them”, the organisation stated.

Current campaign
The association is currently involved in a social media campaign, 'orange the World', organised by the European Federation of Soroptimist, which runs during the '16 Days of Activism' campaign, which takes place from the 25th of November to the 10th of December. This campaign focuses on cyber-violence, harassment, stalking and online abuse. Soroptimist encourages people to recognise the signs to prevent violence, such as repeated unwanted messages, humiliation, pressure to share personal images or exclusion in digital spaces. They also show support for young people and stress the importance of understanding this type of abuse from both sides. “Liking or sharing certain content may seem easy, but it carries responsibility, and it is important to understand the consequences", they say.
