The 2026 budget will include an allocation for the high-resolution process centre

  • Un momento del pleno extraordinario de este miércoles.

This was reported at the extraordinary plenary session convened at the request of the PSOE to debate the construction of a hospital in Mijas

The Mijas Town Hall’s budget for 2026 will include an item of 625,000 euros for the drafting of the project for the new high-resolution process centre planned for the municipality. This was announced on Wednesday 25th by the government team during the extraordinary plenary session.

The local executive explained that a 12,000-square-metre plot of land in Las Lagunas, near the IES Vega de Mijas secondary school, has already been set aside for this new healthcare facility proposed by the ‘Junta de Andalucía’. In addition, an action protocol has been in place since last January, recalled the mayoress, Ana Mata (PP), “in fact, in recent months we have had meetings with the Regional Ministry of Health to finalise the agreements and move forward with the drafting of the project for the new infrastructure”.

Similarly, the councillor and spokesperson for the PP, Mario Bravo, added that “this agreement between the Junta and the Town Hall is divided into two parts and has been approved, pending the approval of the 2026 budget, which we will do shortly, on the 17th of December”.

Health infrastructure

The new high-resolution process centre in Mijas would involve an investment of around 20 million euros and would take 22 months to complete. These figures were provided by the government team at the extraordinary plenary session called at the request of the socialist group, which demanded the construction of a hospital in the municipality. Socialist Josele González highlighted that this project is very necessary but, he stressed, has been stalled for more than two decades. “We should try to put aside for a moment the impositions made from above and think as councillors about what the city needs and what the residents are demanding”, insisted the socialist councillor during the presentation of this point, which was ultimately not approved in the vote.

Regarding this motion, the councillor Juan Carlos Cuevas Dawson (Vox) criticised it for being full of contradictions “because three of the five points are based on old land, reports that are not relevant, expired documentation and decisions that are not valid in the current process and procedure”.

For his part, the spokesperson for Ciudadanos, José Carlos Martín, described the Mijas hospital project as a collective political failure “despite the fact that it is essential from the point of view of mobility, population growth, health infrastructure and respect for the citizens of Mijas”.

The councillor for Por Mi Pueblo, Juan Carlos Maldonado, reiterated the importance of pulling together on health issues, “and now we are going to have decent facilities that will ease the pressure on hospitals in the area, although we must not lose sight of the improvements needed in La Cala and Mijas Pueblo”.
