With the aim of promoting German film culture, Mijas has hosted one of the screenings of the German Cinema Week in Malaga for the third consecutive year, this time in its sixth edition and organised by the German edition of Diario Sur. “Our main venue is the Cine Albéniz in Málaga, but this is the third time we have come to Mijas for a special screening, because Mijas is one of the most important centres for German residents on the Costa del Sol”, said the editor of Sur in German, Uwe Scheele, during the screening held in the plenary hall of Mijas Town Hall on the 27th.

The 6th German Cinema Week is supported by the Goethe Institute, the German Consulate in Málaga and the Mijas Foreigners’ Department, which offered the public free admission to the screening of the film ‘Impatience of the Heart’ by Lauro Cress.

“For six years we have been collaborating with the German Consulate and the Goethe Institute to promote German culture. In Mijas, within the 40 per cent of the population that is foreign, there are 1,053 registered Germans, and this is the third year that our collaboration has grown, allowing us to include a screening of a new film”, said the councillor for Foreigners in Mijas, Mario Bravo (PP).

The screening in the municipality was also attended by the German Consul for Andalusia in Málaga, Franko Stritt, who highlighted the importance of this event: “German Cinema Week in Malaga is the biggest and most important event for us in German culture. I am very grateful to the Mijas Town Hall for lending us this venue and for bringing German culture to us”.
