Mijas doubles its police presence to ensure safety this summer

  • The plan includes increased patrols in the afternoons and evenings, as well as additional resources at large events
  • La presencia de agentes será constante durante las franjas horarias con mayor movimiento ciudadano.

A cycling unit has also been incorporated on the Mijas coast in response to population growth and the increase in beachgoers

The Mijas Town Hall has launched its special security plan for the summer season, doubling the police presence on the streets of the municipality. The operation, which will remain in place until September, involves not only more officers, but also an increase in preventive checks, greater coverage in sensitive areas, reinforced surveillance at major events and a constant presence during the busiest times of day.

This was announced on Thursday 10th of July by the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), accompanied by the councillor for Local Police, Juan Carlos Cuevas (Vox), and the chief superintendent of the force, Juan Manuel Rosas. “This reinforcement serves to guarantee security in all areas of the municipality at a time when the population of Mijas multiplies. We have the best services, and this additional deployment allows us to respond effectively to the needs of residents and visitors”, said Mata. “Safety is a priority, and this measure means more prevention, more control and more peace of mind for everyone”, she added.

For his part, the councillor for Local Police, Juan Carlos Cuevas, stressed that this measure goes beyond simply increasing the number of officers: “Doubling the police presence not only allows us to act more quickly, it also facilitates traffic controls, the early detection of unacceptable behaviour and closer surveillance, which can be adapted to each area and time of day”, he said. Cuevas also stressed that the reinforcement is particularly visible during the afternoons, evenings and large events, when the police presence is increased: “We want a safer, more orderly Mijas that is prepared to respond to any situation effectively and closely”, he said.

  • El acceso en bicicleta de los policías a la playa es más rápido y efectivo.

The plan also includes the reactivation of the Local Police’s cycling unit, which already patrols the Coastal Path daily, specifically between El Torreón and La Luna Beach beach bar in Calahonda: “The cycling unit is a key tool during the summer months. It allows our officers to move more quickly along the coast, act swiftly and provide a constant presence that deters potential crime and hostile behaviour”, explained Cuevas. “Our officers are also there to provide information, help and resolve any incidents that may arise in the beach areas. We want residents and visitors to feel protected and supported at all times”, he added.

Everyone agreed on calling for civic-mindedness and respect for all citizens “so that summer is synonymous with coexistence, enjoyment and harmony in Mijas”.
