The councillor for Youth at the Mijas Town Hall, Melisa Ceballos (PP), presented a new campaign on Monday morning aimed at teaching young people about the importance of sun protection. The campaign, called 'Mójate con tu piel' (Dive in with your skin), is an awareness initiative that aims to encourage young people to act responsibly when exposing themselves to the sun. It is being run in collaboration with the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) and Aquamijas, as well as the pharmacist Aixa Galán.
'Mójate con tu piel' invites young people to enjoy a day at Aquamijas, where, once inside the park, they will take part in various activities related to sun exposure. In addition, the consequences of failing to protect oneself from the sun will be highlighted, and false myths circulating on social media will be debunked.

Galán Vico (@farmacia_galan1900), who has experience in raising awareness on these topics. There are 100 places available, split into two sessions taking place on the 14th and 18th of July.

“I encourage everyone to take part, as it’s a great way to raise awareness about the importance of protecting ourselves from the sun, especially in summer. To that end, we’ll have experts on hand to explain how and when we should do it”, Ceballos explained.

For her part, María del Mar Asesio, director of Aquamijas, described the initiative as “very interesting”, as it can help dispel myths and raise awareness for the future.
Health educator Aixa Galán expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to share information about sun protection. “One in five people will develop melanoma, so we need to be aware of this from an early age. We spend a lot of time in the sun, and it’s essential to take precautions. I will explain how the sun affects our skin in a very dynamic way”, she said during the press conference.

The representative of the AECC, Belén Conejo, agreed on this point and placed special emphasis on the importance of prevention. "We work to educate and raise awareness among the entire population by teaching them, for example, how to determine their skin type. There are several types of skin cancer, and the most common is melanoma, which is why prevention is so important", she said.
